Impact

What we have built so far, and where we are going.

Since our founding in 2021, HEF has been changing lives, from creating a conducive learning environment for a rural school to bringing working adults back into education.

Milestones

Our journey so far

Each step has been built on the experience of the one before it.

  1. Where it began

    Adult education in Garki market

A basic adult education programme for wheelbarrow pushers inside Garki Ultra Modern Market, Abuja, conceived during our founder’s NYSC Community Development Service.

  2. 2021

    HEF is registered

Hillare Educational Foundation is founded and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria.

  3. Jigawa State

    A school for Mabam Ruga

A block of two classrooms built and equipped for Mabam Rural Community School in Birniwa-Hadejia, with a teacher engaged to provide free education.

  4. Every year

    Annual Enrolment Programme

An annual programme enrolling wheelbarrow pushers, Okada riders and petty traders into adult education, giving them access to formal education.

In focus

Mabam Rural Community School

Mabam Ruga is a Ruga Fulani settlement in Birniwa-Hadejia, Jigawa State, the same area our founder comes from.

There, HEF constructed a primary school, equipped it, and engaged the services of a teacher who is providing free education to the settlers. It shows our mission on the ground: a conducive learning environment for a rural community school.

  2. Improved literacy levels
  3. Conducive learning and teaching environments for communities
  4. More skilled people in rural communities
  5. Enlightened, empowered and self-reliant women in rural communities

Accountability

How we measure progress

Evaluation is built into our work plan, from a baseline survey at the start to an end-line survey and technical report at the close.

  1. Before

    Baseline survey

We start by determining the educational needs of less-privileged children in the community.

  2. During

    Mid-term review and monitoring

Project consultants carry out a mid-term review, while HEF and the project team make monitoring and evaluation visits.

  3. After

    End-line survey and report

An end-line survey measures what has changed, followed by a written technical report.

Help us reach more communities.
